Meet the ESOL Teachers

Diane Frijia

My name is Mrs. Frijia, and I teach English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at Timonium as well as two FrijiaDiane Frijiaother nearby schools in Baltimore County.  We have several English Language Learners in grades K through 5 at Timonium coming from countries all over the world.

My mission is to improve the speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills of the students in the program, as well as to coordinate strategies for effective teaching with classroom teachers.  We are using a new text series from Pearson Longman called Cornerstone.  The students are really enjoying it!  The series focuses on developing language arts skills with thematic units written for each level of language development.

If you would like more information about the ESOL Program, please contact me at the school or send an email to dfrijia@bcps.org.

Tianqi Abel

My name is Tianqi Abel. I graduated from New York University and received my master’s degree in foreign language education. I am certified to teach both Chinese mandarin as a foreign language and English as a second language. I have the experience to work with Elementary English language learners for two years. My goal is to help elementary students develop both conservational and academic language proficiency. I truly enjoy working and learning with all of my students.

I enjoy travelling to experience different culture and language. Luckily, I can transfer my experience into my classroom and assist my students to explore the world.
