I grew up in Erial, New Jersey. I received
a Bachelor’s degree in
Elementary Education, Special Education, and American Studies from La Salle
University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I later earned my Master’s degree in
Reading from Towson University. Teaching has been a calling ever since I was
very young. I began my career as a special education teacher for 6th,
7th, and 8th graders in the Philadelphia School District. Four years later, I
moved to Baltimore, where I continued teaching middle school students Reading
and Language Arts at Pikesville Middle School. This is my second year
teaching at Timonium Elementary School as a Resource teacher. Last year, I had
a wonderful school year, and I look forward to seeing my students again after
the long summer break! I am married with one child. In my spare time, I enjoy
reading, working out, traveling, and spending time with my family.

I grew up in Baltimore County. I went to
college at Cabrini University in Pennsylvania and received my B.S. in Special
Education and Elementary Education. I received my M.Ed. from Loyola
University of Maryland in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on
Mathematics. I started my teaching career in 2001 as a self-contained
special education teacher. I later went into an inclusion teacher role
where I worked with intermediate students. I then left special education
to teach 5th grade for six years. I am excited to return to special
education field and work with the students and families of Timonium
Elementary! I am married and have a four year old daughter who keeps me
busy! I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and going camping.

It has always been my passion to create a
quality
public school environment, where students feel safe, appropriately
challenged, and value learning. In 2001, I graduated from the Montgomery
County public school system, and then attended Penn State University to earn my
undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. After student teaching in
Bognor Regis, England, I began working for Montgomery County as a second grade
teacher in my hometown of Rockville. After four short years, I decided to
make the move to Baltimore and marry a Ravens fan, which (at first) was very
difficult for my family to accept, as we are Pennsylvania-bred Steelers fans!
In the face of this “adversity,” however, I have grown to love Baltimore,
and really appreciate the culture and sense of community pride characteristic
of this city.
Teaching at Timonium has given me the
opportunity to really build on my instruction of reading, and implement
higher-level thinking activities and projects. I taught fifth grade reading for five years, where I learned to increase the rigor and raise
expectations for the fifth graders, and enjoyed watching them strive for
this higher level, and excel at becoming critical readers. I then made the jump to first grade where I had the opportunity to work with students on the essential foundation skills in reading and writing. I am now excited to begin a new adventure as Timonium's Reading Resource teacher!
I love working
in an environment with motivated educators who value collaboration and
reflection. The students here constantly push me to evaluate my best
practices, and challenge me to think about literacy in new ways!

Hello. My name is Diane Berry and I
am a
Paraeducator here at Timonium. I started
working for Baltimore County Public Schools in 2006 as the Kindergarten
Assistant at 7th District Elementary School (Yes, in the Hereford Zone. Loved those
Hereford Zone closings!!). In 2013, I
was hired as a Paraeducator to work with students with special needs. In 2015 I was transferred to Timonium
Elementary and I have to say “This school has amazing children, parents and an
energetic staff.”
I have 3
wonderful children (actually young adults) who are working towards their
degrees in college. I like to stay busy and have several part time jobs and volunteer
at an animal shelter. I enjoy the beach,
trying new recipes, going to church, spending time with loved ones and when I
have time reading a good book. I am so
blessed to be here at Timonium and look forward to another school year.
